HBP Monitoring
Diagnostic
Aid
| Suspected white-coat hypertension or excessive anxiety noted during office measurement of blood pressure | Home measurements in patients with white-coat hypertension are usually normal and serve to differentiate this group of patients. |
| Pregnancy | Accurately diagnosing hypertension is particularly important during pregnancy, and HBP monitors may help by providing more measurements within a given time. |
Therapeutic
Aid
| Improved compliance | Studies have shown that patients with difficult-to-control hypertension and patients with poor records of compliance do better with HBP monitoring. |
| Guide to drug therapy | HBP measurements can be useful in guiding drug therapy, both in reducing office visits and in assisting the evaluation of symptoms, eg, light-headedness or unsteadiness, which may occur on treatment. |
