This program for comprehensive and subspecialty ophthalmologists will review in great depth the posterior segment complications of anterior segment surgery including: Cystoid macular edema, retinal detachment, endophthalmitis, antibiotic toxicity, progression of diabetic retinopathy, subluxation, and dislocation of crystalline lens and intraocular lens, operating microscope induced maculopathy, suprachoroidal hemorrhage and others.
The course faculty will place particular emphasis on discussing the treatment and prevention of these complications.
The course will emphasize direct audience participation and panel discussion that incorporates the encountered clinical programs.
At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Identify retinal disease that alters the risk-benefit ratio for refractive surgery.
- Examine the risk factors for endophthalmitis, prophylaxis and management strategies.
- Describe preferred management approaches for cataract surgery patients with diabetic retinopathy or age-related macular degeneration.
- Recognize the spectrum of posterior segment complications of anterior segment surgery.
