Overview

The Cleveland Clinic RJ Fasenmyer Center for Clinical Immunology presents Advanced Management Issues in HIV Medicine which focuses on management of patients infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). This course is designed to heighten awareness of all healthcare professionals but selectively targets HIV treaters and their physician extendors through a state-of-the-art review of current research results and new insights on issues in HIV care.

This program is directed to physicians and other healthcare professionals who have an interest in HIV infectious disease and internal medicine.

Course Objectives

After completing this learning activity, the participant will be able to do the following:

  • Describe the pathogenic mechanisms involved in the immunodeficiency of HIV infection, especially new insights provided by recent research;
  • Compare and contrast the mechanisms of actions and resistance patterns of the new classes of antiretroviral therapeutics;
  • Define the complex issues in antiretroviral therapy, comorbidities, and complications and discuss management strategies;
  • Describe new classes of antiviral agents, resistance patterns, and sequencing strategies;
  • Summarize epidemiologic data and advances in management of HIV.

The Cleveland Clinic Foundation Center for Continuing Education designates this educational activity for a maximum of 7.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Participants claiming CME credit from this activity may submit the credit hours to the American Osteopathic Association Council on Continuing Medical Education for Category 2 credit.

The Ohio Board of Nursing will accept at face value the number of contact hours awarded for an educational activity that has been approved for CE by a nationally accredited system of CE approval.  Therefore the 7.5 physician AMA PRA Category I Credit(s)™ will be accepted for nursing credits.  Nurses from other states should contact their State Board of Nursing.

In case of cancellation, a full refund will be made if cancelled by May 15, 2009.  After May 15, 2009 a $50 cancellation fee will be deducted from your refund.  Written notification of your cancellation is required to process your refund.
