Description

This satellite symposium will present a summary of the Heart Rhythm Lead Management 2009 Guidelines and use a case-based approach to demonstrate their implementation for the prevention and treatment of complications in the management of patients with cardiac implantable electronic devices. The overall goal of the program is to bring together leaders in research and clinical practice to present solutions to improving the care of this patient population in a format that allows interaction between the faculty and attendees.

Target Audience

The satellite symposium is directed toward cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons, scientists, electrophysiologists, and associated healthcare professionals who want to minimize the risks associated with implantable device therapy.

Objectives

After completing this activity, the participant will be able to do the following:

  • Describe the facilities, personnel, and training required to operate a successful lead
    management center.
  • Describe appropriate indications and standard of care for patients with implantable devices as prescribed in HRS guidelines.
  • Identify the data and information that needs collected, reported, and reviewed to successfully implement outcomes and quality measures.
  • Develop processes that model quality decision making in caring for complicated lead
    management situations.
  • Describe the skills, experience, and knowledge base required for physicians, personnel, and clinical teams to provide competent lead management services.
