Description
In recent years, our understanding of autoimmune rheumatic diseases (ARDs) has led to encouraging advances in treatment. Reliance on therapies that affect a wide range of cellular targets is a thing of the past. The use of targeted biologic therapy is on the rise as further data emerge regarding their efficacy, utility, and safety. The increasing adoption of these agents into clinical practice challenges clinicians to remain informed and up to date regarding new data released at European annual conferences.
This symposium is designed for busy clinicians who are interested in keeping abreast of cutting-edge data and novel therapies in the treatment of ARDs. Expert faculty will bridge the gap between the current immunobiologic data and the day-to-day workings of clinical practice.
GOING GREENElectronic Syllabus: Syllabus will only be provided to registrants on a USB flash drive. Attendees are encouraged to bring their laptops to the symposium to view the syllabus. |
Target Audience
This educational activity is intended for rheumatologists, immunologists, clinical researchers, and allied health care professionals who care for patients with autoimmune rheumatic diseases.
Objectives
Upon completion of this symposium, the participant will be able to:
- Review advances in molecular biology that contribute to the understanding of B-cell biology, the integrated immune response, and the pathogenesis/clinical features of autoimmune rheumatic diseases;
- Summarize recently published clinical data relating to the usage of B-cell-directed therapies for rheumatoid arthritis;
- Examine current approaches and clinical methodology to the usage of B-cell-directed therapeutics in autoimmune rheumatic diseases;
- Describe the role of the allied health professional in the overall management of patients on B-cell-directed therapies from the perspective of patient counseling, assessing risks and benefits, administering and monitoring drug therapies, and assessing and managing drug-related toxicities;
- Assess the impact of biologic agents on the rates of serious infections, humoral immunity, and vaccine response.
