Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can become a chronic, debilitating condition affecting the trauma survivor, family and community. PTSD is commonly associated with the veteran due to the high stress of war. Attending to the needs of individuals exposed to trauma requires sensitivity, professional acuity and clinical skill. The purpose of this activity is to educate professionals how to properly diagnose and provide the best clinical treatment for those who suffer from PTSD and comorbid disorders.
Target Audience
Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Primary Care Physicians, Emergency Room Physicians, Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Licensed Counselors, Chemical Dependency Professionals, Social Workers, Pastoral Counselors, Ministers and other healthcare professionals who are involved in the diagnosis and treatment of PTSD.
Objectives
Upon completion of this symposium, the participant will be able to:
- Review innovations, current research and recent findings related to the study of PTSD and comorbid disorders
- Acquire new knowledge and clinical skills in the field of treating trauma and comorbid disorders to improve patient care
- Describe three or more clinical interventions and best practices in the treatment of trauma, for the patient and family
- Develop the ability to differentially diagnose comorbid disorders frequently found in patients struggling with trauma
- Define eclectic strategies to reduce presence of depression and substance abuse disorders when treating patients suffering with PTSD

No refunds will be given after October 14, but registration is transferable for this course only through October 29, 2009.
