Description

This one-day program is designed to assist the general provider understand the process of early identification of hearing loss in children, the evaluation and interventions of pediatric hearing specialists, and available resources for children with hearing loss and their families.

Target Audience

Pediatricians, Family Physicians, Medical students, Residents, Audiology students, Speech and Language Pathologists, Nurses, and Allied Health Professionals. Also, Audiologists, Otolaryngologists, and any providers who have an interest in pediatric hearing loss or take care of children with hearing loss.

Objectives

  • Describe the integral role that a primary care provider can play in the context of a “medical home” model, for children with hearing loss.
  • Review the rationale for and process of early identification of hearing loss in children.
  • Identify the roles played by specialists involved in the evaluation and habilitation of a child after identification of hearing loss, and what next steps they take.
  • Describe the challenges faced by children with hearing loss throughout life.
  • Discuss available resources, and how best to advocate for children with hearing loss.

Accreditation

The Cleveland Clinic Foundation Center for Continuing Education is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The Cleveland Clinic Foundation Center for Continuing Education designates this live activity for a maximum of 5.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Participants claiming CME credit from this activity may submit the credit hours to the American Osteopathic Association for Category 2 credit.

The Ohio Board of Nursing will accept at face value the number of contact hours awarded for a continuing education activity that has been approved by a nationally-recognized accreditation system of continuing education approval. Therefore 5.5 physician AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ will be accepted for nursing credits. Nurses from other states should contact their State Board of Nursing.
