Course Overview
This CME-certified educational activity will address the health needs of women by highlighting best practices that review the latest therapies, procedures, and diagnostics in women’s health. Expert faculty will present evidence-based lectures on selected topics of importance related to women’s health for primary care practitioners. The goal of this activity is to improve the knowledge of primary care providers and, thus, improve the quality of care for women.
Target Audience
This activity is designed for physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and nurses who provide primary care to women. Other health care professionals with an interest in women’s health will also gain significant knowledge from this activity.
Learning Objectives
- Describe the differences in presentation of chronic conditions in males versus females.
- Discuss the most recently published research data and options related to women’s health issues.
- Identify and become more familiar with treatment options for the following vulvovaginal conditions: vaginitis, desquamative inflammatory vaginitis, lichen simplex chronicus, lichen planus, lichen sclerosus, vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia and vulvodynia.
- Provide an overview of traditional and newer contraceptive options for women and become familiar with contraceptive issues unique to chronic medical conditions.
- Summarize the diagnosis and treatment of common parathyroid disorders in women.
- Highlight updated treatment options for uterine fibroids.
- List indications and contraindications for hormone therapy and provide appropriate counseling.
- Cite the tools necessary to diagnose osteoporosis and identify those at risk of fracture who could benefit from treatment.
- Discuss diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders in women.
- Summarize the published data on medical breast and genetics.
- Define the current data on preventative health counseling, diagnosis, and treatment for chronic pelvic pain.
Endometrial Biopsy and IUD Insertion and Removal Procedural Workshop
Endometrial Biopsy Learning Objectives
- List the indications and contraindications of office-based endometrial biopsy
- Articulate and demonstrate each step for performing an endometrial biopsy using a pelvic model
- Describe potential complications of office-based endometrial biopsy and how to manage these complications
- Interpret pathology results; report results to patients, and identify when referral is needed
IUD Insertion and Removal Learning Objectives
- List the indications and contraindications of IUD insertion and identify appropriate candidates for IUD placement
- Articulate and demonstrate each step for performing a insertion and removal of the levonorgestrel-releasing IUD and copper-releasing IUD
- Identify potential complications of IUD insertion and removal and how to manage these complications
