Thyroid Expo 2013:
A Multidisciplinary Symposium on Thyroid Diseases
January 26, 2013
Cleveland Clinic Lerner Research Institute
NA5‐08 Conference Wing
Cleveland, OH
Overview
This one-day course will highlight recent advances in the management of thyroid diseases. New multidisciplinary guidelines for patient management are issued annually on diverse topics in the treatment of thyroid disease. In 2012, these included molecular pathogenesis and prognostication in thyroid cancer. More so than ever before, innovations of new surgical technologies, thyroid cancer diagnostic tests, and new therapies for thyroid cancer are influencing patient care options. The format of the course is designed to address the key concepts of these advancements during lectures, panel discussions, and operative technique videos. Ample time will be allotted for participation by the audience with question and answer sessions.
Cleveland and Northeastern Ohio are home to a large population affected by thyroid diseases. The Cleveland Clinic was established by George Crile, a surgeon, who pioneered the care of thyroid diseases in the early 20th century. The course is also organized in honor of January as Thyroid Awareness Month.
Target Audience
The course is designed for a multidisciplinary audience. Physicians, nurses, residents, fellows, and other health care professionals in primary care specialties of Internal Medicine, Family Practice, and Gynecology, as well as subspecialists in Endocrinology, Surgery, Otolaryngology, Medical and Radiation Oncology, Pathology, Cytology, Nuclear Medicine, and Genomics are invited to attend.
Course Objectives
- Discuss challenging scenarios encountered with benign thyroid diseases and thyroid hormone medication
