Course Description

Percutaneous access to the pericardial space has evolved as an important tool in the armamentarium of electrophysiologists allowing multiple innovative percutaneous procedures, including ventricular tachycardia ablation, atrial fibrillation ablation, and left atrial appendage occlusion. This symposium will address new directions in understanding the treatment modalities offered through this approach and their related benefits and risks.

Learning Objectives

  1. Describe the barriers to attempting nonsurgical subxiphoid epicardial access for VT ablation and other procedures.
  2. Critically appraise the techniques and potential complications of various percutaneous and minimally invasive approaches to accessing the pericardial space.
  3. Examine the success and safety of percutaneous access as well as the ability to map and ablate epicardial VT targets.
  4. Discuss the use of epicardial access for LA appendage occlusion.
