Target Audience

This activity is intended for anesthesiologists.

Activity Design

The Traditional and Emerging Approaches to Challenging Cases in Anesthesiology Series includes cases, corresponding to articles from Anesthesiology News.

Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, the participant will be able to:

  1. Discuss the regulation and alteration of hepatic blood flow.
  2. Define total vascular exclusion and its effect on anesthetic management during elective major hepatic resection.
  3. Describe the surgical techniques used during major hepatic resection and their effect on perioperative care.
  4. Describe the concept of permissive hypotension.
  5. Describe the anesthetic agents and techniques used during elective or traumatic hepatic resection.
