Activity Design

The Traditional and Emerging Approaches to Challenging Cases in Anesthesiology Series includes cases, corresponding to articles from Anesthesiology News.

Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, the participant will be able to:

  1. Apply appropriate techniques for management of increased intracranial pressure.
  2. Discuss glucose management in the diabetic patient.
  3. Discuss the risk factors for injury and preventive management in the morbidly obese.
  4. Describe the indications and complications of osmotic diuretic use during craniotomy.
  5. Explain the methods used to predict difficult airway management in the morbidly obese patient.
  6. Manage safe sedation during awake fiber-optic intubation in morbidly obese patients with a history of sleep apnea.
  7. Evaluate the use of transesophageal echocardiography during cranial surgery.
  8. Describe the management of venous air embolism during neurosurgery.
  9. Discuss problems associated with the sitting position.
