Series Overview

Atherothrombosis is the major cause of the acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and cardiovascular death. Platelets play a substantial role in atherothrombosis, and therapy targeting platelets has the potential to improve outcomes from ACS. This webcast series presents an overview of new and up-to-date research on the management of patients with ACS. The series is designed to increase knowledge of current therapeutic strategies, cardiac assessment and diagnosis, and biologic platelet responses, with the ultimate goal of improving the care of cardiac patients.

On completion of this educational series, participants will be able to:

• Discuss the importance of platelet response in patients with the ACS.
• Explain the recommendations and supporting rationale for use of antiplatelet therapy in ACS Management.
• Describe the results of key trials of antiplatelet therapies, both completed and ongoing, and their effects on clinical practice.

Target Audience

Cardiologists, Emergency Medicine Physicians, Primary Care Physicians, and Healthcare Practitioners (including Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants) with an interest in acute coronary artery disease.
