Vasculitis Highlights Report
Key Research Findings from the Fifteenth
International Vasculitis & ANCA Workshop
and "Take the Cleveland Clinic Vasculitis Challenge"
Vasculitis is a complex disease to diagnose and treat. The differential diagnosis is complicated by clinical presentations that vary depending on the localization and degree and type of organs involved. The presence or absence of antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA) is a more recent addition to the proposed classification criteria. Although its role is unclear, the ANCA status has an impact on diagnosis and may affect treatments strategies.
The International Vasculitis and ANCA Workshop is considered the premier educational activity for bringing together clinicians and researchers to pool their clinical expertise and scientific inquiry with the goal of improving the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis for patients with vasculitis. The Fifteenth International Vasculitis & ANCA Workshop, held May 15-18, 2011, in Chapel Hill, NC, featured sessions providing data on the most recent scientific research on the pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment of vasculitis — information that has the potential to improve the care of this patient population.
Many health care professionals, however, are not able to attend the meeting, creating knowledge gaps regarding the presented data and their clinical implications. These gaps support the need for an educational activity in which experts provide updates on the most clinically important presentations.
To fill that need, the Cleveland Clinic Richard J. Fasenmyer Center for Clinical Immunology and the Center for Continuing Education have combined to present Vasculitis Highlights Report Webcast Series. This educational activity features experts who provide highlights from key scientific presentations and/or abstracts presented at the 2011 workshop.
This webcast series provides several enhancements including audio podcasts, downloadable slide sets, and the Vasculitis Challenge, in which participants are able to view interactive case presentations, respond to polling questions, and access faculty commentary.

Series Objectives
- Describe the evidence indicating the clinical importance of antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA) in the clinical management of vasculitis.
- Summarize results and discuss the clinical implications of data from trials that include immunosuppressive therapy, plasma exchange, and renal transplantation in patients with vasculitis.
- Discuss therapeutic options for ANCA-associated vasculitis, especially clinical trial data on the emerging role of biologic agents for both induction and maintenance.
- Critically appraise the most important data presented at the international vasculitis meeting and analyze its implications for clinical practice.
Target Audience
This webcast is directed to rheumatologists, dermatologists, nephrologists, pulmonologists, and other health care professionals interested in vasculitis.
