Description
Cytoreductive nephrectomy has been a standard of care in metastatic kidney cancer patients since the results of two large randomized trials showed the benefits of this approach in patients subsequently treated with interferon alpha. As more effective systemic therapy has entered the treatment of metastatic RCC, the role of cytoreductive nephrectomy has been re-examined. This webcast will describe the existing data as it applies to the modern treatment era for the current role of this approach in the management of patients with metastatic RCC. The science and biology behind this approach will be reviewed as well as discussion of ongoing research us in the evolving field.
Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the participant will be able to:
- Describe the current role of cytoreductive nephrectomy in the management of patients with metastatic RCC.
- Review the ongoing research into the role of pre-surgical systemic therapy followed by delayed nephrectomy in the management of metastatic RCC.
- Review the scientific evidence in support of tumor volume reduction surgery.
Target Audience
This activity is directed to medical oncologists and urologists.
