This lecture discusses the treatment of ischemic stroke; the risks, benefits and rationale for available treatments and how to utilize this knowledge in practice.
Learning Objectives
- Describe the signs and symptoms of a stroke to all patients to better ensure prompt treatment and minimal post-stroke sequelae.
- Discuss the risks and benefits associated with IV tissue plasminogen activator (t-PA) and intra-arterial lytic therapy for acute ischemic stroke.
- Explain the rationale for choosing between different available antiplatelet agents in patients with TIA and ischemic stroke.
Target Audience
This activity is directed to pulmonologists, allergists, general internists, family practitioners and subspecialists as well as other medical professionals who manage patient care.
