Table 4: Adverse Effects of Ginkgo Biloba.
     Oral Formulations
In most trials, the incidence of adverse effects was similar to placebo:
  • Gastrointestinal disturbances (<1%):
    • Diarrhea, flatulence, nausea and vomiting
  • Headache
  • Dermal hypersensitivity:
    • Ginkgo fruit/pulp is a potent contact allergen
  • Unexplained bleeding:
    • Two cases of subdural hematoma
    • One case of subarachnoid hemorrhage
  • Palpitations
  • Seizures
  • Cross-reactivity in patients allergic to poison ivy, oak and sumac, mango rind and cashew oil
  • Reduced male and female fertility (animal studies)
