OVERVIEW
Diabetes can span an entire life time. This course is designed to summarize and present complications and treatments at every age and stage.
Specific areas covered will include in utero changes in the diabetic mother and placental programming. The challenges of diagnosing and treating adolescents with type 2 diabetes will be discussed. The problems in treating the reproductive female and middle aged male will be covered.
Additionally, the specific concerns in elderly patients including polypharmcy will be addressed. The course will also include a variety of cases in management issues in diabetes including selection of oral agents, insulins, the effects of exercise and nutrition as well as utilizing insulin pumps and continual glucose sensors. The effects of bariatric surgery, diet in the diabetic patient will be reviewed.

After completing participation in this activity, the participant will be able to:
- Review the effects and treatment approach of diabetes from in utero to the elderly.
- Discuss the effects of diet and exercise in diabetes care.
- Review appropriate use of oral agents and insulin.
- Interpret and utilize continual glucose monitoring.
- Select appropriate patients for insulin pump therapy.
- Discuss bariatric surgery as a treatment for diabetes.
This educational activity is designed for Primary Care Physicians, Endocrinologists, Diabetes Educators, Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants and other health care professionals who take care of patients with diabetes.

A block of rooms has been reserved at the InterContinental Hotel for a special rate of $189 single/double plus tax and at the InterContinental Suite Hotel located at 8800 Euclid Avenue for a special rate of $149 single/double (plus tax). The Suite Hotel is within walking distance to the InterContinental Hotel and Bank of America Conference Center.

GROUND TRANSPORTATION
Taxi service is available from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport to the InterContinental Hotel and Bank of America Conference Center for an approximate fee of $30. As an alternative, take the rapid transit train from the airport to the Terminal Tower in downtown Cleveland and from there take a taxi to the InterContinental Hotel and Bank of America Conference Center.
PARKING
Parking is available in the 100th Street Visitor’s Parking Garage for a charge of $10 per day. Valet parking is available at the hotel for an additional charge.
