DESCRIPTION
The Cleveland Clinic Center for Continuing Education will present this 1.5 day educational course focused on the management of patients infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). This course is designed to heighten awareness of all healthcare professionals through a state-of-the-art review of current research results and new insights on issues in HIV care.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
After completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe the pathogenic mechanisms involved in the immunodeficiency of HIV infection, especially new insights provided by recent research;
- Compare and contrast the mechanisms of actions and resistance patterns of the new classes of antiretroviral therapeutics;
- Define the complex issues in antiretroviral therapy, comorbidities, and complications and discuss management strategies;
- Describe new classes of antiviral agents, resistance patterns, and sequencing strategies;
- Summarize epidemiologic data and advances in the management of HIV coinfection with hepatitis C or hepatitis B.
