Overview
These unique epilepsy symposia will focus on the impact of recent advances in diagnosis and management of epilepsy that serves to bridge a major gap in the medical community’s knowledge of epilepsy medical and surgical treatments. In addition, the various levels of outcomes for seizure, mortality due to epilepsy, psychiatric co-morbidities, cognitive functioning, social reintegration and economic impact of successful therapeutic interventions will be addressed.
Objectives
After completing this activity, the participant will be able to do the following:
- Discuss state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment approaches in epilepsy
- Review the medical, surgical and psychiatric factors that affect epilepsy outcomes in children & adults
- Discuss the soci-economic impact of epilepsy control
- Outline the role of antiepileptic medication in post surgical patients
- Apply therapeutic strategies that are most effective for specific epilepsy types
- Identify EEG patterns characteristic of the various types of epilepsy
Target Audience
The symposium is designed for adult and pediatric neurologists and epileptologists, neurosurgeons performing epilepsy surgery in adults and children, psychiatrists, clinical neuropsychologists, social workers and other expert caretakers of patients across all age groups with epilepsy.
Call for AbstractsResidents and fellows are invited to submit abstracts describing epilepsy related research in the following categories:
Five abstracts will be awarded platform presentations and the registration fees will be waived for the presenting authors. Abstracts may be submitted to here. Deadline to submit is May 15, 2009 |
