Description
Health care practitioners and researchers need to stay abreast of recent
developments on fibrosis, a common and serious complication of chronic
inflammation, and their effects on clinical practice. Recognizing this need,
the Cleveland Clinic is bringing together leaders in gastroenterology to
discuss the most effective clinical practices related to fibrotic complications
in gastrointestinal diseases. These experts will compile and critically appraise
new evidence and interpret their applications to clinical practice.
Back to Top
Target Audience
Academic gastroenterologists, surgeons, basic scientists, and other
health care professionals interested in mechanisms of fibrogenesis of the
gastrointestinal tract and liver and new emerging therapeutic options.
Back to Top
Objectives
After completing this activity, the participant will be able to do the following:
- Discuss how chronic inflammation causes and sustains scar tissue formation (fibrosis) in affected organs and tissues;
- Explain the role of cellular components and cytokines in the pathogenesis of fibrosis and tissue remodeling in the gastrointestinal tract;
- Describe new testing methods to diagnose and quantify fibrosis in the gastrointestinal tract;
- Evaluate medical treatment options for fibrosis of the gastrointestinal tract based on pathogenic mechanisms;
- Identify the principles of endoscopic and surgical treatment of fibrosis of the gastrointestinal tract.
