Description

This one-day course will provide an update and framework for health care practitioners to evaluate, diagnose, and manage the patient with chronic pain.

A variety of pain conditions will be discussed by a multidisciplinary faculty. The faculty will review state-of-the-art approaches to the diagnosis and management of pain. Topics will include:

  • legal issues in opioid prescribing;
  • female pelvic pain;
  • neuropathic pain;
  • CRPS (chronic regional pain syndrome); and
  • surgical options for spine pain.

The course begins with a shared set of lectures in the morning. After lunch, two tracks are available that will address specific practice interests. Topics will include

  • radiofrequency ablation for axial spine pain;
  • joint injection techniques;
  • chemical dependency;
  • hand and wrist pain;
  • vitamin D’s role in pain management;
  • yoga and relaxation for chronic pain;
  • pelvic floor exercises;
  • exercise for rehabilitation of the spine;
  • chiropractic manipulation therapy; and
  • when to consider a chronic pain rehabilitation program.

The course will focus on how the health care professional can sort out the nature of chronic pain and what they can do to improve their patient’s quality of life. The participant will gain understanding of how, when, and why to refer patients for specialized pain care.
