Why You Should Attend

As the national prevalence of diabetes increases so does the risk of the diabetic patient developing cardiovascular disease. This creates a need to optimize preventive and therapeutic interventions, especially among primary care physicians. This Summit will focus on clinical strategies to recognize the signs and symptoms of the cardiometabolic syndrome and to initiate early and effective preventive interventions to improve health care and outcomes in this patient population.

Experts in diabetes and cardiovascular care from two of the nation's preeminent health care facilities will provide up-to-date reviews
of research and clinical trials combined with their cutting-edge perspectives on clinical care.

Topics addressed include:

  • Pathophysiology of diabetes and the cardiometabolic syndrome;
  • Strategies to control glucose;
  • Implications of exercise in diabetes management;
  • Cardiac implications of weight-loss surgery;
  • Beta Cell Replacement Therapy;
  • Management of dyslipidemia and heart failure;
  • Cardiac effects of current oral therapies.

This program is an excellent opportunity to increase your knowledge and competencies regarding the relationship between diabetes and cardiovascular comorbidities.

State-of-the-art Scientific Sessions make this program one of the most up to date in bringing out new perspectives on diabetes and the heart.

— Robert Zimmerman, MD

Objectives

As a result of attending this Summit, the participant will be able to do the following:

  • Discuss the pathophysiology of the diabetes-cardiometabolic syndrome and how it contributes to cardiovascular disease;
  • Describe the pros and cons of intensive lipid lowering therapy as it applies to CVD risk reduction in patients with diabetes;
  • Use data and clinical assessment parameters to determine an appropriate weight management program for patients, considering surgical versus medical approaches and their impact on cardiac function;
  • Compare and contrast the efficacy and side effects of current and investigational therapies for reducing CVD risk in patients with diabetes;
  • Design diabetes treatments utilizing the evidence-based perspectives derived from both the similarities and differences in the ADA and AACE treatment recommendations;
