This 2.5-day CME-certified symposium provides an in-depth look at the fields of Palliative Medicine and Supportive Oncology.

It will enable attendees to analyze and improve their patient treatment strategies from both micro and macro treatment management levels. Utilizing research data, case studies, parallel workshops, group discussions, and an audience response system, national and international experts will challenge the audience to explore new options with the goal of improving patient outcomes.

Target Audience

This activity is intended for an international audience of physicians, physician assistants, nurses, social workers, pharmacists, and other health care providers involved with palliative care and supportive oncology.  In addition, health care professionals in hematology/oncology, internal medicine, family practice, and hospice care will benefit from the presentations.

 

Objectives

After completing this activity, the participant will be able to do the following:

  • Describe current management strategies for palliative care;
  • Compare and contrast complications and comorbidities associated with symptom control;
  • Discuss current issues regarding psychosocial care in palliative care patients, especially the psychological, behavioral, and social factors that may influence the disease process;
  • Describe the challenges involved in palliative medicine for oncology patients, including managing toxicities associated with chemotherapy;
  • Design a multidisciplinary pain assessment and management plan.
