Dear Colleague

Thank you for your interest in the Cleveland Clinic’s 21st Annual Intensive Review of Internal Medicine Symposium. We are committed to making this the finest available comprehensive review of internal medicine for physicians preparing for board certification (or re-certification) and for physicians desiring a review of state-of-the-art developments in internal medicine. The symposium will be conducted by distinguished members of the Cleveland Clinic Staff and eminent visiting lecturers who are renowned in their fields of interest.

The symposium has been updated to reflect new developments in the field and incorporate suggestions from prior symposium participants. It will again feature an interactive, computerized audience response system, which will be employed to facilitate audience participation in most lectures. Topics will cover current concepts and Board-related issues using an organ system approach. Emphasis will be placed on relevant clinical information. Lectures will be supplemented by Board Simulation sessions in which relevant clinical cases, pathology, and imaging studies will be integrated.

We believe that you will find our comprehensive review of internal medicine to be an outstanding educational experience. We would be happy to answer questions in advance regarding the symposium. Please feel free to contact us directly at the Cleveland Clinic.

Sincerely yours

James K. Stoller, MD, MS
Brian F. Mandell, MD, PhD

ABIM Medical Knowledge Modules

An interactive study session for Maintenance of Certification

  • Update in Hospital-Based Internal Medicine
  • Update in office-Based Internal Medicine

Saturday, June 20, 2009

Lerner Research Institute
5th Floor Amphitheater
Cleveland Clinic

Program Director:

Brian Mandell, MD, PhD
Vice Chairman of Academic Affairs
Cleveland Clinic

Program Overview

To help physicians with their recertification needs, the Cleveland Clinic is offering ABIM Medical Knowledge Modules in both Hospital-Based and office-Based Internal Medicine.

These modules provide an opportunity to learn, in an interactive environment, with clinical experts who will lead participants through the 50 case-based questions that comprise two ABIM Medical Knowledge Modules. These study sessions offer an opportunity to weigh the evidence on a case-by-case basis, discuss the options with expert faculty and fellow participants, and identify the most appropriate answers to the ABIM questions.

Program attendees will actively participate using an audience response system.

ABIM Maintenance of Certification Program

ABIM Diplomats may enroll in the Maintenance of Certification Program (ABIM’s recertification program) by visiting the web site www.abim.org (Physician Login).

After completing this program, registered diplomats can submit their answers directly to the ABIM and earn 20 knowledge-based points toward Maintenance of Certification.  Please refer to the ABIM Information Section for additional information on how to submit your answers.  You must be enrolled in ABIM’s Maintenance of Certification program to submit completed medical knowledge modules for scoring, feedback reports, and eligibility to receive Maintenance of Certification and CME credit.

For information about the ABIM Maintenance of Certification program requirements, visit ABIM’s website, www.abim.org or call the ABIM Contact Center, 800-441-ABIM, extension 3598.

Target Audience

This program is intended for general internists preparing for maintenance of their recertification in internal medicine or those who would like an in-depth review of topics covered in these two ABIM Maintenance of Certification knowledge-based modules.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of the program, the participation will be able to do the following:

  • Analyze their clinical decision-making skills;
  • Apply effective strategies to successfully meet the Maintenance of Certification;
  • Use a self-evaluation of their medical knowledge to successfully meet requirements for ABIM recertification.
