After completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify and manage endocrine diseases in hospitalized patients, including obesity, diabetes and hypercalcemia.
  • Discuss cardiac disorders for hospitalized patients, including atrial fibrillation and systolic heart failure, and review perioperative cardiovascular guidelines for 2024.
  • Analyze clinical approaches to hematology in hospitalized patients, focusing on anemia, coagulation testing, and thrombocytopenia.
  • Critically appraise approaches for managing gastroenterology problems in hospitalized patients, including approach to transaminitis, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and updates for endoscopy with GI bleed.
  • Provide an overview of various topics the interprofessional care team faces, including care of high-risk pregnant patients, acute pain management with patients with chronic pain, and updates regarding palliative medicine.
  • Provide an update on and analyze the newest literature that impacts the hospital medicine care team.
