Description
Although withholding angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors or angiotensin II receptor blockers before noncardiac surgery reduces the risk of intraoperative hypotension, recent trials suggest that it leads to harm in sicker patients.
Learning Objective
Identify patient-specific and other factors that should be considered when deciding whether to hold or continue angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors and angiotensin II receptor blockers in the perioperative setting.
Target Audience
Directed to practitioners in anesthesiology/pain management, cardiology, cardiovascular disease, geriatric medicine, internal medicine, nephrology, and hospitalists.
