Release Date:   April 30, 2012

Estimated Time of Completion:  45 minutes

Description

Liver Update helps health care providers who treat patients with liver disease stay abreast of current research and clinical trials presented at the recent American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) meeting. Expert faculty present the most clinically germane research, synthesize the findings, and discuss their implications for clinical practice. This series provides a valuable opportunity for practitioners not able to attend the national meeting to stay abreast of the most clinically important research.

Learning Objectives

  1. Describe non-invasive methods for diagnosing hepatic fibrosis in patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
  2. Discuss new findings related to the effects of lifestyle modifications (Mediterranean diet, coffee, exercise) on NAFLD.
  3. Develop an understanding of currently available prognostic scoring systems for patients with acute alcoholic hepatitis.
  4. Develop an evidence-based treatment approach to a patient with acute alcoholic hepatitis.
  5. Identify the prognostic relevance of monitoring biochemical response in patients with primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC) on standard therapy.
  6. Recognize that fatigue in patients with PBC is associated with objective findings.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for all health care providers who treat patients with liver disease including internists, family practitioners, gastroenterologists, hepatologists, gastrointestinal surgeons, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants.
