In addition to the extensive topics included in the agenda, we encourage you to take advantage of the optional hands-on workshops, to include a Suturing Workshop as well as Point of Care Ultrasound Workshops for Heart, Lung, Abdomen and procedures.

The conference is designed for a national community of healthcare professionals, specifically Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, Advanced Practice Registered Nurses, Registered Nurses, and students pursuing these disciplines. Workshop A: Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) 101

This introductory workshop provides a focused overview of point-of-care ultrasound across abdominal, cardiac/pulmonary, and procedural applications. Faculty will demonstrate key techniques using a live ultrasound machine, followed by supervised hands-on learning. Includes approximately 35–40 minutes of dedicated practice time to build foundational POCUS skills. 

Learning Objectives:

  • State rationale for use of abdominal, heart/lung and procedural use of ultrasound.
  • Demonstrate the examples of the above.
  • Interpret findings of the ultrasound images.

Workshop B: Suturing 101 

This hands-on workshop introduces participants to fundamental suturing techniques in a structured, skills-based environment. Each learner will be assigned an individual workstation equipped with a suturing kit, practice materials, and all necessary supplies.

The instructor will demonstrate a series of core suturing methods before guiding participants through supervised practice at their own stations. Techniques covered include over-and-over sutures, subcuticular sutures, horizontal and vertical mattress sutures, and suturing methods for securing drains.

Learning Objectives:

  • State the types of suturing materials used in surgical procedures.
  • Demonstrate how to load needle and appropriately align for different suturing techniques.
  • Determine when to use different suture techniques.
