Questions and multiple-choice answers about the case presented include the rationale for the correct answer. Learning Objectives

After completing this case the reader should be able to:

  • Recognize symptoms related to polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS).
  • Diagnose PCOS based on the proposed criteria.
  • Appropriately select PCOS therapy according to guidelines from the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists and American College of Endocrinology.
  • Counsel patient with PCOS about increased cardiovascular, metabolic, and endometrial cancer risks.

Target Audience

Directed to primary care physicians including family practitioners and internists.
